Mechanism of E-Commerce

There are various kinds of mechanisme in running an e-commerce. Among them, the most widely used are:


  • Electronic Catalog. Shopping catalog, once shaped paper printed and distributed to the individual. Now, the catalog is available electronically, either in the form of a CD-ROM, or downloaded via the Internet. Electronic catalog consists of database products, directories and search capabilities. L


  • Electronic Auctions. A competitive process where buyers and sellers are able to haggle the price of a product or service.


There are two (2) types of auctions, namely:

  1. Forward auctions. Auctions are held by the seller (seller) to the purchaser (buyer), by utilizing a channel. An example is e-Bay.
  2. Reverse auctions. An auction where a buyer who is usually the organization, wants to buy a product or service. The buyer then post the RFQ (request for quotation), the ataupuan website to third party sites. RFQ provide detailed information regarding the products or services to be purchased. Suppliers then studied RFQ and bid electronically.



  • E-storefront. Is a website that provides a single store. While electronic mall, also known as cybermall or e-mall, is a collection of individual stores in the internet address.
  • Electronic marketplace. A virtual market space in the web world, where buyers and sellers conduct e-commerce and other e-business activities.
